Chief John H. Standing Waters


Chief John H. Standing Waters was born in 1863. He was an extraordinary intelligent man. He made his living as a Fisherman and, in later years, as a Gardner. He often clammed in Little Neck Bay.

He was affiliated  with the Sons and Daughters of the First Americans of Rhode Island with the Narrangsett.

He was a lifetime member of the United Association of The American Indians.

He was Chief of the Matinecocks from 1958 to 1964.

He passed away in 1964 at the age of 102.
